Ethnobiology is an interdisciplinary field that traditionally studies the interactions between local communities and their surrounding environment. This field is concerned with the study of knowledge and concepts developed by each culture in the context of biology. In other words, ethnobiology is the study of the biological knowledge of specific local and indigenous groups, focusing on cultural data and information about plants, animals, and their reciprocal relationships. As suggested by existing definitions, ethnobiology can be divided into two main branches: ethnobotany and ethnozoology.
Given the climatic, biological, and cultural diversity of Iran, and in line with the objectives of the University's Research Center of Geographic Sciences and Social Studies of Hakim Sabzevari University in Sabzevar, Iran, the establishment of an interdisciplinary Ethnobiology Core was approved. It operates in collaboration with the specialized ethnobiology working group of the Anthropology Society of Iran.
The journal aims to expand the horizons of knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of ethnobiology and to provide the necessary platforms for utilizing scientific findings for the country's scientific, cultural, social, and economic development. It should be noted that the Research in Ethnobiology and Sustainable Development journal is a quarterly publication with a publication license number 97773 from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
